FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Does Blurward send anything to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser. There is no Blurward backend that watches your screen or stores your terms.

Will it slow down my browser?

No noticeable cost on normal pages. Heavy mailbox-style pages with thousands of matches stay smooth thanks to per-block batching and caching.

What's the watermark?

On the free tier, masked spans show a small `Blurward` badge. It exists so you can see the protection working. Pro removes it. Protection itself is identical on both tiers.

What happens if I uninstall Blurward?

All your rules and settings are stored locally inside Chrome. Uninstalling deletes them. We can't recover them — there's nothing on our side to recover.

Does it work on every site?

Yes — including iframes, Shadow DOM and same-origin embeds. Some highly custom sites that paint text inside `<canvas>` need a structural rule rather than a text rule.

What about Firefox / Safari / Edge?

Chrome and Edge today (both Chromium). Safari is on the roadmap. Firefox after Safari. VS Code extension comes after the browsers.

Can my company use it?

Yes — Team plan in Pricing. Centralised policies, audit log, basic SSO.

Is it open source?

The detection core is MIT on GitHub. The packaged extension is freemium so we can fund maintenance — same model as Obsidian.

What about regulated industries?

Blurward is audit-friendly (everything stays local), but we don't certify GDPR / HIPAA compliance. Pair Blurward with your existing controls.

Will my password ever flash on screen for a frame?

No. Predictive masking keeps it hidden from the first keystroke.

Why we built it

We're a YouTube + Twitch content team. Half our editor's timeline used to be black rectangles, and one Stripe pop-up mid-stream put a card number in front of thousands of viewers. Blurward exists so neither happens again.
